Stump grinding
A leftover tree stump isn't just an eyesore in your garden or rock bed; it is a liability. Stumps can become tripping hazards, obstacles for your lawn mower, and breeding grounds for pests like carpenter ants and bees. Whether you are planning to plant a new tree or simply want a smooth, safe lawn, Shadywood Tree Experts provides complete stump removal services to restore your landscape.
Our Professional Grinding Process. We make the process simple, safe, and low-impact for your property. Our specialized stump grinding machines are designed to access backyard gates and grind the stump away without tearing up your surrounding landscape.
1. Safety First (Utility Marking): Before our crew arrives, we contact Gopher State One Call (811) to identify and mark all underground utilities. This ensures the safety of your property and prevents damage to gas or electric lines.
2. Deep Grinding: We don't just skim the top. We grind the stump approximately 6 to 8 inches below the ground surface. This depth is critical to ensure the stump is gone for good and allows for future planting or turf growth.
3. Aerating the Soil: Our machine utilizes a specialized cutting wheel that travels back and forth, aerating the wood chips with the existing soil. This creates a mixture that breaks down naturally over time.
Custom Cleanup & Lawn Restoration. Stump grinding creates a mound of mulch (wood chips mixed with soil). We offer flexible cleanup options to fit your needs and budget:
Option A: Leave the Mulch (Best Value): We rake the grindings into a neat pile over the hole. This nutrient-rich mulch is excellent for moisture retention and can be spread around the base of your other trees and shrubs.
Option B: Haul Away: We remove the excess mulch from your property, leaving the area clean.
Option C: Complete Restoration: We remove the mulch, fill the hole with premium black dirt, and lay grass seed. This creates a seamless finish, leaving your yard ready to grow. A tree stump left alone in a wooded area, garden, or rock bed might be desirable in your yard, but if you plan to plant a new tree or don't want to mow the grass around it or trip over it, we can remove it for you.
Shadywood Tree Experts and Landscaping provides stump grinding services, which include:
Notifying Gopher State One to identify and mark underground utilities
Grinding the stump to about 8 inches below the ground surface
Giving you the option of hauling the excess mulch away, or leaving it for you to spread around other trees and shrubs to help retain moisture
Filling the hole with black dirt and seed, if requested
The stump grinding machine has a circular blade that travels back and forth across the stump surface, aerating the mulched wood as it grinds deeper into the stump. When stumps are ground, there will be a mound of mulch mixed with dirt from the grinding process next to where the stump was. This mulch is lightweight and easy to spread to other areas, and is a great natural material to spread around the base of your other trees to help retain moisture.
