If they're certified, they've passed an exam covering all aspects of tree care. Check www.isa-msa.org, or see if they display the official logo of an ISA-certified arborist.
2. Ask for proof of insurance, then call the insurance company.
A reputable arborist will have personal and property damage insurance as well as worker's comp. If the arborist is uninsured, you could be liable for damages and injuries.
