Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide free estimates?
Yes we do. All are estimates are no charge, whether the estimate is for tree pruning or removal, landscaping, or plant health car.
Can you give prices over the phone?
We cannot give 'ballpark' or exact prices because each job or project we look at has a very unique set of variable with it. These variables include but are not limited to equipment needed, difficulty of the job, and of course safety concerns. We would be happy to stop out and provide you with a free estimate.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes we do. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. In addition, we accept cash and checks.
How long has Shadywood been in the Twin Cities?
We have been serving the Twin Cities metro area since 1967. That's over forty years!
Are you Licensed, Bonded and Insured?
We are licensed and bonded in all cities that have those requirements. In addition, we provide a copy of our Certificate of Liability Insurance with all our estimates.
How big is Shadywood?
We employ approximately 20 employees and service over 3000 homeowners each year. We believe we are the perfect-sized company for all your tree care needs!
Will you clean the work site when you are done?
Absolutely! We pride ourselves on our thorough cleanup after we complete your tree work.
When should I have my trees pruned?
Almost all trees can safely be pruned any time of year. Due to insect and disease activity, trees such as fruit trees, oaks and elms should be pruned only in the fall or the dormant season, October through March.
In the winter, how can you tell a dead tree from a living tree?
Buds form in the summer and fall and are visible on live branches, even after leaves fall in autumn. Careful attention tells us all we need to know.
Do you offer stump grinding?
Yes we do. Our stump grinding services are typically done a few days following tree removal. For safety reasons, we will contact Gopher State One to have buried gas, electric, and cables located. This is the law. Please understand that Gopher One cannot locate sprinkler systems, invisible fencing, and any buried line that is installed by the homeowner. It is the responsibility for the homeowner to notify Shadywood Tree Experts of the location of these buried lines. We cannot be responsible for damage to these lines.
How often should trees be fertilized?
We recommend fertilizing trees each year, especially high maintenance trees such as birch, honeylocust, maple, spruce, and any tree valuable to your landscape.
Will my ash tree get emerald ash borer?
All current research tells us that yes, all ash trees will eventually get emerald ash borer and subsequently die. This is what happens when a non-native pest attacks a tree that has no natural defenses to the pest.
Can my ash tree be saved from emerald ash borer?
There are very effective preventative treatments that can protect your ash trees and treatments. If detected early, emerald ash borer can be controlled. Call us today for more information.
Do you have references?
We'll happily provide a client reference list if requested.
